Der Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden ist ein Teil des City Parks von New Orleans und befindet sich direkt neben dem New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Anders als die meisten Skulpturengärten liegt er inmitten einer gewachsenen Landschaft aus Kiefern, Magnolien und Eichen, die zwei Lagunen umgeben. Als im Jahr 2003 Sydney und Walda Besthoff ihre ersten Werke für den Kunstpark zur Verfügung stellten, konnten sie nicht ahnen, dass ihre Schenkung an die Stadt sich zu einer der renommiertesten Kunstlandschaften weltweit entwickeln würde.
Besthoff Sculpture Garden
Obwohl der Skulpturengarten 2019 auf die doppelte Größe erweitert wurde, umfasst er gerade einmal 5 Hektar (zum Vergleich: der Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis zeigt seine Werke auf 42 Hektar). Die Anzahl der ausgestellten Kunstwerke übertrifft die anderen Gärten allerdings bei weitem; mehr als 100 Skulpturen warten inzwischen auf die zahlreichen Besucher. Ein 5.000 Quadratmeter großer Indoor-Pavillon bietet seit der Erweiterung eine zusätzliche Ausstellungsfläche und ergänzt so die Installationen im Garten.
Die Werke des Besthoff Sculpture Gardens repräsentieren das Who-is-Who der Bildenden Kunst: von Pierre-August Renoir über Henry Moore, Robert Indiana und Claes Oldenburg bis zu den Künstlern der Gegenwart wie Tony Cragg oder Katharina Fritsch, um nur wenige Namen zu nennen.
