With a population of only 90,000, Santa Fe is the pretty capital of New Mexico and thus the oldest capital in the United States. For more than 100 years, all new buildings had to be built in the traditional adobe style; older buildings were listed as historical monuments. The result is a harmonious cityscape that is unique in the United States.
With more than 200 galleries, the city is also one of the most important places for American art. Canyon Road is home to about 100 artists showing their impressive works to the public.
