Hörl, Ottmar

Ottmar Hörl is best known for his temporary mass installations of serial sculptures in public spaces. His monochrome figures – people, but also animals and everyday objects – are particularly effective due to their sheer number. 400 figures of Goethe on the Westend Campus in Frankfurt am Main, 500 sculptures of Charlemagne in Aachen, 800 figures of Luther in Wittenberg or, most recently, 115 golden Richard Wagner sculptures at the Bayreuth Festival are just a few examples of his work.

Other well-known works by Ottmar Hörl include the “Einheitsmännchen” from 2015, the Euro sculpture in front of the Eurotower in Frankfurt am Main and the famous “Dürerhase”, which the artist had installed 7,000 times in different shades of green on Nuremberg’s market square in 2003.
