Perth (WA)

Perth is the capital of the state of Western Australia and is considered the most isolated major city in the world; the nearest large city, Adelaide, is over 2,000 km away. Since its residents deliberately turned on all the lights in 1962 so that astronaut John Glenn could see the city from space, it has been nicknamed the City of Light. Located on the Swan River, just a few kilometers from the Indian Ocean, the city enjoys an average of over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Swan Valley, one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, is just a half-hour drive away.

Perth

Perth is famous for its stunning beaches (such as Cottesloe Beach) with their spectacular sunsets. The city is modern, bike-friendly, and relatively relaxed compared to the megacities of Sydney and Melbourne. Kings Park is one of the largest urban parks in the world and offers not only excellent recreational opportunities but also fantastic views of the skyline. The heart of the city beats at Elizabeth Quay, which is surrounded by modern glass skyscrapers.

Perth benefits greatly from the mining boom in Western Australia (gold, iron ore, gas), so, many international companies have branches here. Due to its isolation, the region has its own “time bubble” – trends and developments often arrive later than in Eastern Australia. The Trans-Australian Railway, which connects the city to Adelaide, features the longest straight stretch of railway in the world, at 478 km without a single curve.
