Alexander Calder was one of the most influential artists of classical modernism and the founder of kinetic art. He is considered the inventor of the mobile, whose balanced elements move by natural forces. The mobiles were designed in such a way that they could capture the airstreams both inside and outside the room, which was a revolutionary concept for the art world at that time.

In addition to the mobiles, the artist developed Stabiles, a name that his friend Jean Arp invented early on for Calder’s stationary sculptures. The abstract works of art, which reveal concrete forms on closer inspection, can be found all over the world. One of the most famous sculptures is certainly the red flamingo in the heart of Chicago.
