Henry Moore is considered Britain’s most important sculptor in the second half of the 20th century. His works are distinctive; he is known for his large, semi-abstract bronze sculptures, which simultaneously depict very concrete figures, typically mother and child or resting respectively reclining female figures. His undulating, rounded works are usually perforated or contain cavities.
Henry Moore was convinced that public art is particularly important for society. In order to make his works accessible to a wider public, he donated them to numerous foundations and institutions worldwide, always under the condition that the sculptures be exhibited in public. Since there are in some cases up to nine casts of his artworks, his sculptures can be found all over the world.
