* November 26, 1924 New York

† June 9, 2000 New Brunswick (NJ)

George Segal became known above all for his plaster sculptures, which he typically combined with real objects. The “Environments” he created form smaller and larger dioramas. Since the artist completely avoided color in many of his works of art, they remained plaster white. Where he did use color, the figures were mostly monochrome. Segal’s works often appear melancholic, his figures sad and distant, even when several of them are together.
