Brummack, Heinrich

Germany

* January 19, 1936 Treuhofen

† February 21, 2018 Schwäbisch Hall

The works of Heinrich Brummack are characterized above all by unusual motifs and a vibrant use of color. His colorful, often humorous sculptures playfully comment on traditional ideas of monuments and memorials, demonstrating that modern art can look quite different. In Kassel, for example, the water of the market fountain bubbles out of a red cooking pot, while in Westerkappeln, a fountain features a rabbit and flowers.

Brummack’s sculptures very often contain golden elements, such as the golden stone on the gate, the golden mouse on the Pandora Temple, an oversized golden rabbit, or the golden tree of temptation on the Kocher bridge in Künzelsau. The artist’s largest work is a four-meter-high spinning top on a roundabout in Ibbenbüren.
