Laura Ford‘s artworks are characterized by dreamy figures with childlike and animalistic character, appearing playful, lost and disturbing at once, although they seem cute at first glance. The artist creates figures that could have come from fairy tales, fables or even absurd theater; she herself describes her works as a mixture of humor, melancholy and darkness.
Ford works not only with bronze, but often also with textile materials such as fabric, felt, clothing, or plush. This lends her figures a particular vulnerability, which is especially evident in the three monkeys with their bandages. Her sculptures are an expression of the artist’s keen observation of human existence and her comprehensive engagement with political and social issues.
