Donald Lipski is known for placing everyday objects such as tools, musical instruments, furniture, or found objects in unusual contexts. He combines things in such a way that new meanings are created – often humorous, surprising, or even a little bit absurd. The arrangement of the objects in space plays a central role in his work. Although the artist works with everyday objects, his pieces are crafted with great precision. He places great emphasis on aesthetic quality and careful execution, which lends his installations a high degree of elegance.
Since the 1990s, Lipski has created many large-scale works of art for public spaces. Among his best-known works is “The Yearling” in front of the Denver Public Library, a life-size horse on a giant red chair. More than thirty other pieces of art can be found throughout the United States.
