The artist Albert Paley is a trained goldsmith and applies this precision on a large scale to his steel sculptures, combining forging, welding, and other metalworking techniques to create masterful compositions. He deliberately plays with the boundary between decoration and construction; many of his works are architectural sculptures or public commissions integrated into buildings, entrances, or public squares.
Paley’s works appear vibrant and dynamic, even though they are made of heavy metal. Many of his sculptures incorporate natural forms such as plants, leaves, or flames, which are, however, highly abstracted and stylized. Curved, rhythmic lines and complex forms create a sense of movement and energy for the viewer. Despite their large dimensions, every detail appears finely crafted; it is precisely this combination of scale and precision that has become the artist’s trademark.
