Spanish artist Andreu Alfaro is known for his large-scale sculptures in public spaces. His works are strongly based on geometry and clean lines; circles, straight lines, parabolas, and spirals define his art. Although the artworks are often quite large, their open geometric structure generally makes them appear light and airy.
Alfaro preferred to work with stainless steel, aluminum, and iron; he valued metal for its lightness, smoothness, and industrial aesthetic. The surface of the materials plays an important role – reflection, shadows, and the surrounding environment change the perception of his works. Many sculptures consist of modular elements that rhythmically increase in size, rotate, or stagger. This makes most of his works appear dynamic, even though they are made of rigid materials.
