Price, Thomas J.

Great Britain

* 1981 London

Thomas J. Price is best known for his realistic, often larger-than-life sculptures. He works with bronze, silicone, and paint, frequently employing elaborate production processes that combine classical sculpture with modern techniques. Formally, his works are reminiscent of classical monuments; however, instead of historically significant figures and heroes, they depict anonymous, contemporary people in everyday poses.

The artist’s central concern is to make black bodies and identities visible in art and public spaces, where they have historically been underrepresented. The figures often appear introverted, calm, or contemplative.
