Lechner, Alf

Germany

* April 17, 1925 Munich

† February 25, 2017 Dollnstein

Alf Lechner’s steel sculptures, which appear so light at first glance, are based on basic geometric shapes such as circles, squares, rectangles or cuboids and are the result of differentiated analyses and a carefully thought-out planning process. The artist pushes the boundaries of what is technically and artistically feasible by dividing, multiplying, lining up or nesting the forms.

His works can be found in many museums, particularly in the Lechner Museum in Ingolstadt and in the Lechner Sculpture Park on the site of a former ironworks in Obereichstätt. Germany alone is home to more than 80 of his sculptures in public spaces.
