Eliasson, Olafur

Denmark

* February 5, 1967 Copenhagen

Olafur Eliasson is known for integrating nature into his works. Light, water, air and physical phenomena of nature such as movement, mirroring and reflection play a fundamental role in his mostly large-scale objects and installations. Vogue magazine once described the artist as an artivist; he has been working on climate change for more than 20 years.

Eliasson examines the relationship between people and nature, relates his works to the environment and brings climate change closer to us through his art. This results in installations with colored rivers, scent tunnels and artificial suns, yellow fog in Vienna and man-made waterfalls in New York. On the other hand, his artistic work also includes real buildings such as the “Cirkelbroen” in Copenhagen and the spectacular “Fjordenhus” in Vejle.
