North Carolina Museum of Art (NC)

The North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) in Raleigh is one of the most important art museums in the south-east of the USA; the associated Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park is the largest art park of any museum in North America. Around 5 miles of paths lead through the gentle hills, lined with more than 30 permanent works of art.

The list of important sculptures is led by Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin and Mark di Suvero; artists such as Roxy Paine and Jeppe Hein – to name but a few – complete the collection. Three giant steel rings, the sculpture “Gyre” by Thomas Sayre, are the park’s landmark. In addition to the permanent sculptures, there are also a number of temporary installations; the park is also used for special events. Admission to the museum and the park is free.
